Born in Philadelphia and now working in rural Pennsylvania, I have explored art through photography and oil painting. Today, I work primarily with encaustic on wood panels.
I am drawn to wax for its smell, the immediacy of its application, and its ancient connections to art in Africa. The material engages my senses while connecting my practice to a much longer history of making.
Nature and color influence my work, as does obfuscation: the possibilities of concealing and partially revealing an image. I am interested in forms that suggest something familiar while leaving room for uncertainty.
I hope viewers feel a sense of anxious energy. Through color, texture, and obscured forms, I want to create tension that holds the eye and invites a longer look.
